Report of the last to classes

The last two clases we thermoformate our car, and paint them. Then we made the survey and analyze the results.

The questions where:

1. Consideras que este auto es más apropiado para:
a)ciudad b)campo c)carreras de

2. ¿Cuál sería la mejor descripción para este auto:
a)elegante y sofisticado b)juvenil y deportivo c)común y básico

3. Prefieres que sea:
a) Cupé b) Descapotable

4. Te parece que el diseño es:a) Moderno b)anticuado c)moderno pero retro

5. Consideras que es más apropiado para:a)mujer b)hombre

Class Report 25.03

Z print

Last we learn to program and use the Z corp. Printer
The first thing to do is to open a file but must be a .stl file. Then, the file must be validated and mustn’t have open edges because these can alter the results of the printing. Like if you want something hollow you would obtain a solid object, so this is important to check it. If the file has holes, it will appear black areas on the file. And also could not print it.
Then it is also important to check the units whenever you are exporting the file. And you can adjust it, so if the part is bigger than the base of the machine, the program will tell you and can scale your file. If the object that you are going to print is too big, you would have to cut it in 2 parts. After exporting and adjusting thing the file you have to justify it at the bottom, down and the left corner. Then you have to select the printer: *file-3d print setup…And select -serial port.
Before printing it is important to check the powder level, it has to be at the level of the base. This printing has the possibility to print 2 parts in the same file and at the same time, but you have to be sure that these ones do not intersect between each other.
Also the program tells you approximately the time thaht it is going to take for printing. -File -print time estimated

The machine has a control panel were you can move or chance the powder and depth. While working with the powder there are some tools like a spatula, colander. Every time you are placing powder you have to strain it, because most of the times it is reused and could have parts of a printing.

After printing, you have to leave the object inside for an hour and then, 30min outside resting. Then you have to blowing it in the compartment besides, using a blower and a vacuum cleaner. It is important to use the blower not to near because could brakes the piece. Finally use a small brush and “varnish” it with resin (40%) and hardener(60%). You can put it just a layer or maybe two but after it is dry.

11/03- 18/03 Classes

The last tow classes we prepare our files, and progan them in order to use them to print on the CNC Roland Printer.

First, after validating them on the Viscam View program each of the team select one of their 3cars design.

We convert the curves or surfaces into meshes adn save it as .stl (stereolithography). Then we save together the 3 car in the same file.

Then we program the file in the Modela Program and finally print it.

After having the cars printed now we have to sand them and thermoforming, and then we have to make a survay abour the desing and others characteristics.

Car and models

This is the car that our team is going to model

In this first model, after validating it, I saw that there are unmatched edges and also that the normals are in different directions, for example the stapes (estribo).

As in the model 1, in this model 2 occurs the same, of the normal, and the adges. the difference in design between the model 1 one and model 2 is that the back of the last one is more rectangular.

In model one also the direction of the normal is different, as you can se in the "estribo" and the windows. Also there are some unmatched edges

Report Class 25-02-09.

Last class we saw how to export our files. When we already have our volume or model and we want to export it in order to 3D printers, there are to ways to export it.
First you select you model and click “file”-“export”-“ estereolitography”- “Preview” and you model is formed in a triangle way. Then in “options” you can determine the mesh-“refined mesh”- “binary”-and “accept”
The other way is to select the model, write “convert to mesh”, speblish the number of polygons (medium) and “accept”.
Then we learn to validate our model using VisCam, located in Marcam Engineering. This program helps to prepare our files in STL for rapid prototypes.
After saving your files, you open it in this program and check if it has unmatched edges. If you have it you can’t print it. It is important to know that the tolerance of holes and edges is prox 20. But for CNC this tolerance is not so important because it just work with surfaces.
Then, by using another program named MODELA player 4 you can print in 3D.
First you have to be sure that the Roland 650 is connected. Open you file that is already is STL file. Then you have:
To select the material where you are going to print
To configure the model
To verify the scale and units
To select the origin of the model where is going to start (at the middle)
To select how the machine will work (this machine work with 4 axes) *it can turn the object backward
To choose your tolerances
Then the printing is taken in 4 stages. Each time you establish a stage you have to click on “new process”. You can determine the tool that will be use, the depth, and all the aspects that are important in order to accomplish the print in the best way.

Report of the class 18/02/09

Last class we started to model the car, using the 3D printer files as a path. While modeling we put these files in another layer and block it. Then started to make curves, using the top view in order to create the basic form of the car. For this exercise we use an application called "project in plane c", this help to create curves in just one plane. Then we do the same exercise but now in the lateral view.
At the end, when we already had the curves needed to create the surfaces we use the application called “barrido por dos carriles”
